The House of In-Correction (HoI), began in Cambridge in the summer of 2011 in response to our residency at Green Hall (via NoDS residency!). The House was provoked by research into The Vagrancy Act of 1822 in the UK but our research and inspiration has now extended beyond this. How do laws like the Vagrancy Act shape the time we spend in social spaces, and how we find one another and form radical friendships? Alex Felicitas & I undertook a residency at Greenhall and from this we began making new work and plotting our own residency space in Canada. The House of In-Correction is a residency space in Edmonton, Canada that Alex Felicitas & I set up in 2012. We are pleased to be a part of the Network of Domestic Spaces (NoDS). More info on how to apply here - http://www.nodsproject.com/spaces/house-correction NoDs was formed to expose and facilitate creative initiatives on the domestic front- to bring people closer together in the process, and to examine the dry wall, brick, or concrete barriers between private and public space. Maybe even knocking some of them down on the way! NoDs views every aspect of everyday living as a constituent part of the creative process and vice versa. This integration of creativity and living is at the core of the NoDS philosophy. The House of In-Correction (HoI), joined with NoDS in early 2012 and has since hosted six artists/activists/academics-in-residence. The HoI is a sanctuary for dissidents, vagrants, tramps, and misfits. Through the use of communal meals, mutual aid, compassionate creativity, and soil and seed the HoI subverts the traditions of “norm” and works out the tensions between dominant culture and the Rêve Générale; the General Dream.
